Hi Jeannie! Your career spans over 17 years in the gaming industry, from TV production to mobile game publishing. Can you share a pivotal moment in your journey that significantly shaped your professional direction and led you to your current role as Director of Mobile Publishing at gamigo? How did your diverse background contribute to your success in this field?
I wouldn’t say there was one specific pivotal moment that determined my professional direction toward my current role. Rather, it has been a collection of experiences over the years that have shaped my growth and prepared me for the challenges I face today as Director of Mobile Publishing at gamigo.
My diverse background has been a significant asset throughout my career. It has given me the flexibility, openness, and perseverance to navigate and overcome the many challenges I’ve encountered over the past 17 years. Working across different countries and in varied roles has allowed me to view the industry from multiple perspectives, which is crucial in my current role. I often wear many hats—business strategist, creative, manager, analyst, client, and customer—and my past experiences enable me to approach each of these facets with a well-rounded understanding.
For instance, my time in TV production taught me how to solve problems quickly and from all angles, regardless of the scale of the issue. My background in business development gave me a unique insight into both sides of the business equation, whether you’re serving as the client or catering to the user. Meanwhile, my work in brand and product management empowered my creativity and honed my understanding of customer personas—knowing how to package a product for the right audience while considering KPIs, feasibility, and customer-centric design.
In summary, I feel fortunate to have built my career path with a broad range of experiences that now allow me to view publishing through multiple lenses, giving me a comprehensive understanding of what it takes to succeed in this field.
Throughout your career, you’ve managed the launch and promotion of various mobile games across different markets. What is your vision for the future of mobile gaming, and how do you think emerging trends like AI, AR, or blockchain technology will influence the way games are developed, marketed, and experienced?
The future of mobile gaming is definitely moving toward a highly personalized experience for players. With the wealth of data we now have, games will increasingly shift from offering generalized experiences to delivering more tailored content that caters to each player’s preferences, habits, and even payment behaviors. This shift will allow developers and publishers to address the unique needs of different markets in a more precise and individualized way.
Emerging technologies like AI and AR will play a crucial role in this transformation. AI will help us understand players on a deeper level, offering insights into their behaviors, preferences, and motivations. This will enable us to create more meaningful and immersive gaming experiences that resonate with each player on a personal level. Additionally, AI will allow marketers to move away from generic mass messaging toward more targeted, personalized communication, giving players the feeling that the game is designed specifically for them and their community.
AR, on the other hand, will continue to bridge the gap between the virtual and physical worlds, providing new layers of interactivity and immersion that weren’t possible before. This will not only enhance gameplay but also foster stronger connections within gaming communities.
Blockchain technology, while still evolving in its role within mobile gaming, has the potential to bring new forms of ownership and decentralization to players, from in-game assets to entire game economies. It could redefine the relationship between developers, players, and the content itself, offering more transparency and player-driven ecosystems.
In summary, the future of mobile gaming will focus on creating more personalized, engaging experiences for players, driven by AI, AR, and other emerging technologies. These tools will help us connect more deeply with players, provide them with tailored experiences, and foster stronger communities, all while transforming how we market and develop games.
Your educational background includes a mix of media production, mass communication, and marketing. How did your studies influence your approach to game publishing and marketing, and what advice would you give to those entering the gaming industry today in terms of education and skill development?
I’ve been fortunate that my career path has aligned closely with my educational background, which spans audiovisual creation, product development, branding, and project management. All of these foundational elements come from my formal studies, and they’ve played a significant role in shaping my approach to game publishing and marketing.
While I believe skills can be developed through hands-on experience and aren’t exclusively tied to formal education, education provides the essential foundation and structure to help you cultivate your abilities. It gives you the framework to not only refine your innate talents but also to build new skills as you progress in your career.
For those entering the gaming industry today, my advice is to pursue an education that sparks your curiosity and broadens your understanding of both creative and business disciplines. But equally important is to stay flexible and open to learning through experience. The gaming industry is constantly evolving, and being adaptable, curious, and willing to develop your skill set—whether it’s through formal education or practical experience—is key to long-term success.
